1) What language did you hope the students would practice using through this activity?
We hoped you to use English. This activity was for communication in English,so we must use English.
2) How did you try to introduce the activity in a way that would attract the interest of the students?
We tried to show the picture and demonstration.I think students will be interested in the activity if I show many materials.Using materials is better than explaining in language.
3) Did students understand your explanation/demonstration of the activity? Why or why not?
Almost ok,but the purpose wasn’t clear. We drew two pictures both three days ago.In picture A and B,there were some differences. For example, there were three books on the bed in picture A, and in B there were two books on the bed.If student A asked B [”how many books were there on the bed?”,the answer was “there were two books”. There were three books in picture A,so A erased only one book in picture A.
The activity’s points were three. First,it must have used English grammar of past tense.Because we saw Mr.Hall’s handout of communicative activity.Second, we hoped you to learn communication where and what things were through looking for the differences between picture A and B. Third, we wanted the students to be interested in this activity, so we thought that the students must use their hands. In other words it was physical activity. But in fact,we had to use two pictures about three days ago and now.Students didn’t understand this point.I’m sorry. We made this activity original.
4) What kind of group work/pair work did you use, and why? Was it effective?
We used pair work. Because the students communicated with many friends and they practiced more and more through pair work. But it was not good, because small classroom caused the students to be crowded.
5) How was your class management?
We could walk around in the class,so we could manage in it. But some students couldn’t understand, so we must have talked to them actively.

1)We hoped students to use English.
2) We tried to show the picture and demonstration.
3)No,they didn’t.
Because we have a misunderstanding about this activity,I think we should use two pictures ”3days ago” and “now”.
4)We used pair work.
Because we thought that we want students to move and communicate with various students.
It was effective ,but we couldn’t tell students about changing partner very well, so students confused.
5)It was very difficult, because we have to forward the class while we were looking over students.

Aroma and Forest,
I was impressed by your effort today and that you demonstrated the activity in English! Altogether, you used a lot of English during the activity and that was great for me to see.
Here are some suggestions to have an even better lesson:
1) Tha pair work was a little complicated. It would have been better if the pairs were assigned. I will show you how to assign pairs next class.
2) One of the sheets should have been labeled “3 days ago” and the other sheet “now”. In that way, the activity would have made more sense.
3) When you introduced the activity it was not clear to me what the purpose of the activity was. When doing a communicative activity it is important to tell students WHY you want then to do it.

The activity used handout was good, so students were not bored.
You advised students walk about positively during this activitiy.
I think it is good to explain most English is very good, for students are used to English. But, there are some students who can’t understand only English. So, I thought that activity was more smooth if they worked on the activity after you explain by Japanese, too.

Thank you for your good class!
It was good idea using handout and doing pair work because the students may practice enjoying. But your class was little difficult to understand. I think you should explain more simple and shorter.

Thank you for your hard work!!
your handout was very cute and practical.
But, why both sides were “3 days ago” ??
I think it is better that A group side is “3 days ago” and the other side, B group is “today”.
How did you think about this?

1) Did the teachers introduce the activity in a motivating way?
I think there were some meaningless part. Why were there two kind of pictures of Kaori’s room in the same day?If A were the picture yesterday and B is the picture three days ago, it become meaningful.
2) Were you clear about what you had to do?
I think it was almost clear.
3) Did the teachers walk around the class and keep you involved in the activity?
Yes,they did.
4) Was the teachers’ class management effective?
Yes,because they also participate in the activity. So they had a chance to do activity with the students.

I thought the activity that you held was so nice. Because we could communicate with a lot of other students, we could use English with fun! And I also thought it was good that you walked around the classroom during the activities, because you could grasp understanding levels of students by watching the activity.
I enjoyed your class! Thank you for your teaching.

Thank you for your class.
Your effort to use only in English was very good because it’s important for students to listen to English as possible as theycan.
I think that a tempo of your explanation was slow and it made students bored. If explanation in English is too difficult for you, it would be more efiicient and understandable to use Japanese a little.A little means a minimum.
Good job!!

(4)Yes, it was. The class was not passivity and students could many practices in the class.

Your support of study was good. I think it is very important thing. I thought we should think about individual, group and general support.

I enjoyed the activity! It was good activity that we find the difference between two pictures. Espcially, junior-high or elementary school sudens can get interested with the game. I think that you had better explain the rule of the activity more easily. Or the worksheet should be changed to the easy form.

Thank you for your class!! I enjoyed this class very much because I can communicate with many friends. I think it is important to make opportunity of communications.
If the worksheet is more simple, we can do activity smoothly.

The activity used handout was good, so we were not bored.
Your class had many opportunities to use English.
But that activity was difficult to understand for me.
I wanted you to have to explain an activiy to me more.

Thank you for your class.
I think this class’s activity is good for students. They don’t have chance to speak themselves. So they could communicate in English.
Moreover, to use picture they could learn without boring.
Only reading the text, they couldn’t concentrate. So this activity is interested for them.
