Grammar and Practice(James & 3iOn)

Video

JAMES

We tried to teach modification(修飾).

We planed to present the grammar structure by changing orders. For example, “I bought a book.(私は本を買いました。)”. When we change orders “I bought” and “a book”, it means “a book I bought(私が買った本)”. If you have information “This is a book. I bought a book.”, you can say “This is a book I bought”. And we used teaching materials. Because they have visual effects. I thought if we did so, students could learn by eyes.

But I think we were not successful. There’re two reason. First, 3i0n and I didn’t have many time to prepare. And I think another reason is relationship between teacher and students. Our relationship was so bad. What do you think is the better way to get in good with students?

Our practice form was “substitution”. But we didn’t have enough time and we were not successful.

I think the most important thing for class management is relationship between teacher and students. And I felt it’s difficult to make good relationship in last class.

3i0n

We taught students about modification.  In Japanese, when we want to give a particular account of some noun,  we put modifier before the noun, 「私が昨日買った 」for example. But in English, it is in reverse, for example [a book I bought yesterday].   So we used some materials in order that  students could get visual impressions and understand this sense. I thought it was good.

But we spoke much Japanese in teaching. We were puzzled about what quantity of English we should use because it is difficult for us to teach modification in Japanese, much less in English. We finally decided to use as much English as possible, but we couldn’t after all.

And I was confused about how to develop class because students each have difference among indivisuals to understanding English.  In this practice of teaching I felt that I have to think of all students afresh.

    僕には、先生達の教え方は良かったです。日本語と英語で話していましたから、生徒は間単に分かります。また、構文の説明方は分かりやすかったと思います。構文をよく説明しましたから、生徒は分かるから、生徒の練習が良かったです。様々な練習方法は重要ですけど、時間が足りませんでしたから、練習方法が多くなかったです。

    先生と生徒の関係が悪いなら、授業を始まる時、生徒と簡単な会話をしてみてください。

Thank you! Teaching method by using paper goods was easy to understand the grammar. I think useful and I want to introduce into my English class. AndTeachers warned to some problem students. I’ll give you a question. How can we do the class with all students interested in it? It was very difficult to take care of all students, I know well. Please teach me your opinion.

The tempo of the class was good. The explanation was careful, too.
This unit is very important because it is leading to relative pronouns(関係代名詞) etc…
So, exercises of the repetition is necessary.
Therefore I think the pair work that you were going to do is effective.
I think that relationship is very important between students and teachers too.
Teachers takes in a game during a class, and interest students in class is good method. But, it is difficult to have to do the accent in class. And, I think that it is important that teachers usually a lot of conversation with a student .

Thank you for your good teaching! It was good idea to use materials.
The relationship between teachers and students is important issue. What about doing game or group work? Every student can join in class and they may enjoy studing. I think students surely like your class and the relationship become good!

Using materials is good idea! It was easy to understand structure ,and we can forward the lesson smoothly.

My part of student was talking with next seat friend,so I couldn’t listen to your lesson carefully.Theaching every students is very difficult. We have to think about the lesson plan, that can attracts students.

    Thank you!

You were good at the usage of the materials.
When we teach this grammar, using such materials is a good idea.
Because we can move it again and again, so we can save the written time.

This class students are strong rival for the teachers!!

Thank you for your good work!

I think your good point was that you spoke clearly. It is important for students because they understand what to do now.If they don’t know what to do,they will sleep or talk to friends.

Can students think in this order?

    I bought a book.(私は本を買った。)

    a book I bought(私が買った本)

I think it may be a little difficult for students because the former is a sentence but the latter is a noun phrase.

    I agree STAR’s opinion.
It had changed the sentence pattern before and after switch. So I think that the students may be puzzled.
However, the materials were very good idea and easy to understand!
Thank you for your nice teaching!

Thank you for your class! I think your materials are good. Letter on the blackboard were fine and easy to see. Materials are good, so it was better for students to participate in changing structures of sentences, I think.
I could understand easily by handmade pictures. Fish was so cute!

    James and 3iOn,
You explanation can be in Japanese but your practice should be in English. Also, your practice should have more than one method. Not just substitution.
I will say more about this in class tomorrow.

I think the way of your advice to student was appropriate.
Your voice were clear and I wasn’t tired of your class.

The tools of teaching was helpful to understand the structure.
    Thank you for good class!!

I’m sorry to be late giving a comment.
Your presentation’s good points are using simple materials and being careful to student’s attitude.
Maybe we could undersrand about form and when the structure is used, but I thought meaning was difficult.Because I can use the structure, but I couldn’t know deeply about this structure. When I was a high school student,I almost did.You have to confirm whether we understand it or not.
And I think more practice is need.
Your class was so simple that I understood the structure.Thank you very much!!!Good job!!!!

Thank you for your teaching . I could learn grammer with fun. All student don’t good at English. So using Japanese is not bad.Moreove, they used important part in English. Therefore student could understand important grammer.
    Thank you.

    Thank you for your teaching.

I think your class had a lot of good points! I especially thought using materials was so nice. Because you could move the papers phrase by phrase, studens could have constructive understanding.

And I thought it was important that we deviced classes to make students concentrate on a class. Let’s think about class management together from now on!

Your way of giving a class had really good atmosphere because you spoke cheerful and clearly.

I think it’s important when reproving students.

We didn’t feel unpleasant since you told us to be quiet cheerfully.

Thank you for your good teaching!

I think your good point was that you warn some individual students to take part in the class.
But your class was difficult a little.
I felt such when let you put a question(compare I bought a book with a book I bought) to us.
    “I bought a book.” is a sentence.
but “a book I bought” is a noun.
You should use the letter of sentence.

    thank you
