Reading Class (Star and Minimia)

Part 1

Part 2

Lesson Plan and Reflection

by STAR

1. We showed the students the picture about the story and made them guess what they could see in the picture.

2.The student learned the new word ‘lullaby’.

3.They read  the textbook and answer the comprehention questions.

1.I wanted them to imagine what the story was, but I thought it was a little difficult for the Junior High School students. So we asked them what they could see in the picture. The students could guess that there were two people and the tree in the story.

2.It is easier to teach them the meaning in Japanese, but it is not interesting. So we wanted them to imagine the meaning by singing.I think they could understand what the meaning of lullaby.

3.First, the ALT read because there may be some students who don’t have confidence in pronunciation. And then, they read aloud.I think reading aloud is important to make them join the class. We also used the silent reading to answer the comprehention questions because in Class 12 (July 2, 2009) I learned that reading silently was the best way for students to develop their reading abilities.

To control the class, I tried to walk around the classroom and to give them advice.I think our bad point was that we could not motivate the students to read.

Please look at STAR’s comment about lesson plan.

1.This activity had the purpose that to raise student’s conscious of reading and we wanted them to imagine what the story was. It was the pre-reading. But it was difficult for them to image. So we should asked them “What can you see in the picture?”. Then, they could understand there are a mother, daughter and tree more easily.

2.”Lullaby” was the new word and the keyword in the story. So we wanted the students to understand in interesting way. We chose “singing” way. We could attracted the interest of them.

3.At first, ALT read the passage because I think some students don’t know how to pronounce. Next, they read aroud to take part in the class all the members. And silent reading was important to comprehend the contents and ask the questions.

I walked around and speak to some students in trouble to made them to concentrate the class.  But we could not go smoothly and we have room for improvement in pre-reading activity, I think.

Sorry, comment is to be early.
This class constitution was steady and was gathered up. I heard it and was plain.
I think that you sang a nursing song at first was very good. Because you can attract the interest of students and this class content became clear.
So there were you near a student when you were attention to the students, it was good way to the attention.
I felt questions of the handout were a little difficult for junior high students.

I think that teachers walking around the classroom is very good idea, because students easy to ask teachers how to do,or some questions.
I also felt questions of the handout were a little difficult, so we need to more devise interesting questions.
    Thank you for your class!

Thank you for your teaching practice.
Singing lullaby was good and easy way for students to understand the meaning of ‘lullaby’.
As you two mentioned, it was good that the teacher read sentences first. But when you have students repeat after the teacher, you should divide each sentences into some part. Actually it was difficult for me to repeat one sentences at once because some sentences were too long to read at once. So I think it’s better that you have students repeat as I mentioned first, and then you have them repeat each whole sentences.

    お疲れ様でした。授業ありがとうございました。

    僕には、プリントの質問は少し分かりにくかったです。質問ははっきりしないと思います。多分、中学生は分かるのが難しいです。

    一方、生徒と読む練習した時、よく出来たと思います。生徒と一緒に練習したから、生徒は簡単に分かったと思います。

    Thank you for your teaching!
It was good way that students imagined the story without help because students might have more interest. Only reading is not interesting , so your lesson was good for student to have motivation.

Thank you for your hard work!!!
You adopted some kinds of reading method;listen to ALT’s reading, read aloud, read silent. It was very good !!!
I think the way of ALT’s reading was also good because students keep tension when teachers come near them.

I enjoyed your class very much because you gave us questions not only about the story but ourselves too.(ex.Who did song for you in your childhood?←I’m sorry I don’t remember it accurately.) Your class was emotional.

I think the most important point in reading class is to give students a chance to think in different point of view. So as to have different point of view, emotion is the best tool. We can think as if we were a tree , a mother, and a girl in Hiroshima.

I think the handout was little difficult, but it was interesting, too because there were some answers in each questions. Students can exchange ideas with friends.
Reading was good! Reading by a sentence is easy for students. I think shadowing or memorizing is also interesting.

    I really enjoyed your class!
When we solved questions, you hold a group activity.
I think it was so nice, because we could communicate with other friends and ask them the questions that we couldn’t solve individually.
And I thought the question that asked about ourselves was so interesting.
    Thank you for your teaching!

Thank for your class.I could study with fun.
At first, ALT read the sentence. It is effective for students because they could listen correct pronunciation and concentrate
at the sentence. Moreover, I think asking question is good way to let student understand the story. If students understoond the story, they could learn new words easily.

It was good to use many questions in this class. Teacher’s asked a lot of questions to students.
I thought teachers need to keep students busy. Some blanks were in this class, so some students felt boring. In addition it, by doing games this class will be more effective and active!

I think reading class is the most difficult class.

Reading practice with ALT was good way .
But I think your question in hand out was little difficult, too.

thank you for your good effort.

Reading activity was a good point. Question was good, too.
You gave us questions not only about the story. We were not boring.
But that questions was difficult a little to understand for me.

    Thank you for your teaching.
